Abstract

The increase in mechanized harvest of sugarcane without fire provides the conditions of moisture and vegetation cover for the development of spittlebug (Mahanarva fimbriolata Stal, 1854) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) making this a major problem plant of culture. The attack of the pest could result in losses of quality and quantity. The methods of control more utilizing in control of this insect are chemical and biological through the use of Metharhizium anisopliae fungus. The productivity and quality of sugarcane are influenced positively when it controls the spittlebug in culture.
