PHOSPHATE FERTILIZATION TO THE MAIZE CROP

Abstract

The experiment was carried out in field conditions, during three cropping seasons, in a clayey soil (Oxisol), with the objective to verify the effects of phosphate fertilization in the corn grain yield and in some soil chemical characteristics. Six rates of fused magnesium phosphate (0 - 180 - 270 - 360 - 450 - 540 kg ha-1 of P2O5) were broadcast and only applied for the first cropping period. It was verified that the phosphorus application promoted significant increments in the corn grain production and in soil P concentrations. The rates higher than 270 kg ha-1 of P2O5 were efficient until the third year. A relative production of 90% was associated with a soil P concentration around of 15 mg dm-3. The highest rate of fused magnesium phosphate promoted, in the two first years, a significant increase in the base saturation, pH value and soil Ca and, Mg concentrations.
